Eating to thrive.
Wild or pasture for life meat has helped humans to thrive for thousands of years.
We believe eating wild venison or pasture for life beef and lamb is excellent for human health, especially when eating nose to tail.
Best is when it is wild – the food we evolved to eat.
The next best is when it is farmed as part of diverse farming system that promotes bio diversity and ecological growth. Using grazing plans that allow the animals to eat and live as nature intended – looking after our planet. Looking after our health.
Humans have relied on meat as a dense source of protein, fats, vitamins and minerals for thousands of years. Today, much of the meat available is not of the standard humans have always eaten. We want to change this.
Wild Venison is our go to meat here at Fauna.
It is absolutely packed with nutrients and pound for pound is as high or higher in protein than any other meat.
It is the food we evolved to eat, wild and free to graze on a variety of seasonal foods. Moving every day at their own will, deer are our last large source of wild red meat in the UK and their population is in need of management. They have no predators in the wild here.
This has major consequences for our efforts as a society to plant tree’s and re balance the harmony of nature which has been badly affected by the industrial boom of the last few hundred years.
Management of deer is a necessary tool in helping our ecosystems thrive. This has the huge benefit of providing delicious and highly nutritious meat as a byproduct.
Our flagship product will be our wild venison thrive boxes – food that you are evolved to eat, to help you thrive – not survive.
Lets break this down a little more
The diets and lifestyles of our ancestors have been shown to lead to much better health than modern westernised diets and lifestyle. The work of Weston A Price in the early 1900s was clear in regards to this, and other studies show similar results.
Hunter gatherer societies, ate wild animals they had hunted – eating and using the whole animal. Traditional small scale farming communities ate animals raised on pasture. This meat was eaten with whatever fruits, vegetables and sometimes grains were available. This created healthy, thriving humans, free of the disease and ailments we see today.
The problem with most commercial meat today is not meat itself, or the animals, but the way in which they are farmed. Today we rely on industrialised, monoculture food systems. They are anti human health, anti environment, anti animal welfare. They go against so many natural processes.
We believe that wild venison trumps all this a million times over – for us as humans, for the animals themselves and for the planet.
Regenerative farms also have a huge role to play in providing us with better meat. Better for us as humans, better for the animals, better for the environment.
