Meat and the environment

We focus on providing wild venison meat boxes because we believe they are an incredibly sustainable source of meat. We know that deer need management to help us protect our eco systems. The benefit of this is an incredibly healthy source of nourishment for humans.

Wild deer in the UK have no natural predators and so that is where we come in, ethically and carefully managing the deer population to help deal with this problem.

Cattle and Sheep are also blamed widely for carbon emissions and ecosystem destruction. We believe that nature friendly farming methods can hugely help protect the environment whilst providing great food.

Cattle, can play an important part in our ecosystems when managed well. In regards to methane they produce, this is released into the environment and becomes part of a long term cycle that actually returns the methane to water and carbon dioxide molecules. These are retuned to earth where they take part in the process of growing more grass.

In the meantime, large ruminants are incredibly important in creating and maintaining healthy soil systems. Which are incredibly important for life on this planet to survive and thrive, but also for the storage of carbon.

Yep, healthy soils can help reduce carbon emission damage.

Much has been made of the increase in the amount of cattle in the world. However, if we go back in time a few hundred years, there were an estimated 30-60 million bison, 10 million elk and 30-40 million deer roaming north america. This was before the greenhouse gas emissions began to shoot up, and almost all of these bison in particular have been destroyed.

People seem to forget this when talking about the damage that ruminants have on the environment.

We only use farmers that are using regenerative farming methods to help promote ecosystem recovery. We believe farming can be environmentally sustainable.

If you still are not convinced by cattle and sheep, then why not try one of our thrive boxes – wild venison meat boxes from totally wild animals. They must be culled, and it is unbelievable that more people haven’t eaten this wonderful meat.
